Cindy Spell, guitar instructor

Instructor Biography

Cindy Spell holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from East Carolina University, where she studied with Dr. Elliot Frank. While living in Utah for eight years, she served as instructor and guitar coordinator for Utah Valley University and as president of the nonprofit organization, Utah Classical Guitar. She also directed preparatory division guitar studies for the Gifted Music School in Salt Lake City. Cindy has performed with the Salt Lake Symphony and appeared as guest soloist with the Wilson Symphony Orchestra, Pitt Community College Symphony Orchestra, and the Symphony of Hope. Other teaching positions include Barton College, Pitt Community College, Coastal Carolina Community College, and the Music Academy of Eastern Carolina. Cindy enjoys teaching and performing, and she also puts her organizational skills to use in administrative roles. From 2003-2024, she served as administrative director for the East Carolina University Summer Guitar Festival. She currently assists with the Queens University of Charlotte Guitar Symposium and the Appalachian GuitarFest and Boone Suzuki Workshop. Cindy opened Always Learning Guitar Studio in 2022, and she continues to find opportunities for development and growth as a performer and educator. In 2025, she and co-founder Kate Oliphant launched Radius Guitar Collective, a nonprofit organization providing positive educational events and finding ways to highlight underrepresented groups within the classical guitar community. She currently lives in Lexington, Kentucky.
